Welcome to Design Dweller

I enjoys many things, mostly design. Usually they all end up here.

My design musings were part of the tumblr world for 4 years http://designdweller.tumblr.com/ (See for yourself.) But I’ve made the move and I hope to spending the next four years here, and beyond. New year, new blog and new designs to dwell on.

So with that in mind… You can learn a little bit more about me below. Also check out the my portfolio teaser, a by product of my 3 years at Billy Blue College of Design, in my next post.

“I grew up in a small country town, where design wasn’t high on a list of priorities, and as a creative this was hard for me. When I was young I’d get creative with a history essay and science project, simply because I was bored by the material. Wherever I could I was challenging the norm. If it wasn’t creative, I was bored. What I didn’t have however were the skills…

During my studies at Billy Blue College of Design my perception of design has grown beyond measure. Now I am inspired by everything in design, from fashion to graphics, 2D and 3D touch points, media, and architecture. Being a Branded Environment designer means I can understand all of these tangible and intangible elements.

I can now really see how the design community is evolving and changing. Our design solutions are experientially driven, now more than ever. I can see the shift in brand from pure messaging to the creation of experiences. Consumers don‘t just want, logos, products, or stores anymore. They want brand experiences; they want to buy into a brand.

I am also excited about the nature of cross collaboration on projects with other creatives. I love participating and observing conversations about design, particularly as I currently manage my own blog. These design conversations that are now happening among different creatives allow for brand experiences that encompass all elements.

As a designer I have the ability to think not just across the aesthetic but also across the strategy. I have design skills that span both communication and spatial design.  I also understand, as a brand strategy driven designer, that you have to work with many creative people to create effective brand experience.

So what do I want to do? Where do I see myself in 5 years.?
I dream of being a part of a creative studio that is leading the field in experiential design and that my brand strategy and spatial skills will allow me to push creative boundaries.

I am willing to be open, to practice and to participate at entry level so that I can achieve this goal. Because I’m not just a product of design school, but also a product of life.”

#MuseumMondays: Real Life Stories is currently on view at Bergen Art Museum where installations, sculptures and paintings by ten leading Chinese artists are shown in Norway for the first time. Curated by Feng Boyi and Bjørn Inge Follevaag, it exhibits works by Liu Jianhua, Li Songsong, Song Dong, Yin Xiuzhen, and Yue Minjun from Pace Beijing.

The 2012 Colour Run is currently touring through 20 U.S. cities. The only requirement is wearing a white shirt. Throughout the run, participants are doused in bright pigments (cornstarch that is 100% natural and safe). Each kilometer is focused on a specific color – 1k is yellow, 2k is blue, 3k is green, 4k is pink, and the 5k finish is a “Colour Extravaganza” where a rainbow of hues are thrown.

I wish we have something similar here in Manila. This sounds like a LOT of fun.

Cooper, the Cat Photographer

Cooper, a normal house cat from Seattle, has recently become one of the world’s most talked-about photographers after his owners tied a timer-controlled camera around his neck, which takes snaps of his day-to-day adventures.

His brilliant career began last year, when his owners, Michael and Deirdre Cross decided to attach the tiny camera in order to answer the question that plagues all cat owners – “where does my cat go all day?” It started out as a fun geography experiment, but when Cooper came home the first day, and they saw the amazing photos they were completely blown away. Michael and Deirdre realized it wasn’t about where their furry pet went all day, but about how beautiful and lush their neighborhood looked from a feline’s perspective.

The mini camera around Cooper’s neck takes photos every two minutes, revealing everything that he sees. Whether it catches other cats, one of his many hiding places, his owners, or the big blue sky, the camera revealed some pretty amazing shots and practically made Cooper a star. It also helped his owners understand more about their pet, for example, they noticed Cooper spent a lot of time looking at the back door, and realized a lot of his time was spent looking for a way to get inside. So they got a cat flap and noticed he was much happier.
